Yes, but it’s a net loss & that net means that what you’re looking at is a composite of some positive & negative movements. There’s a reason why I used it & bolded it to draw attention to it.
I would definitely say that the current wording just relates to the amount gained. It does not relate to the amount used or anything like that in the description and would suggest that it is only referring to the gain and ignoring any loss. I feel like it should have been reworded when they were rewording everything else…
Also, it should still work with Culvinars claim if the amount goes over the amount that you started with but it does not. If you start at 50% and loop once and to 70% the damage does not show that there was any gain. Currently I think it is genuinely bugged and if they intend to use percentile gain to mana then this at least needs to be fixed. Not to mention that bug that makes the nodes just not work at all 50% of the time and have no effect at all when you are using Culvinars.
“When you finish channeling, you unleash a wave of lightning with base damage equal to a percentage of the mana you gained while channeling.”
If they are referring to the percent of mana gained then it should be changed to:
“When you finish channeling, you unleash a wave of lightning with base damage equal to the percentage of the mana you gained while channeling.”
and then they could add an example:
“If you start channeling at 10/100 mana and stop at 60/100 then you have gained 50% and this would have base damage 50”
Or it could be worded as:
“When you finish channeling, you unleash a wave of lightning with base damage equal to the difference in mana from when you started channeling.”
The example would be similar here:
“If you start channeling at -10 mana and stop at 50 then you have gained 60 and this would have base damage 50”
Yes, given what you describe I would agree that this is a bug, regardless of how they want this to work with Culvinar’s, because apparently right now it’s not working at all.
Personally, I think they could rework this so that it works with Culvinar and similar items and in a way that prevents eventual abuse down the line with power creep. And that is to simply count all the mana you accumulated but change the formula to have dimishing returns after a certain threshold.
So if you start channeling and you accumulated 200 mana it will give you the same bonus as now. If you accumulate 10k mana, it will give you an equivalent to 2k on the current formula, etc. Values may be adjusted for actual balance.
This way people could have fun with the item and how they think it should work and you clamp on the upper values so power creep doesn’t eventually give you easy one shots.
