i played as spell blade 58 lvl and sorcerer 55 lvl and beat the story at 0.7.9 patch in august, it was then when i tried crafting and was left disappointed with it. Few days ago i wanted to see what’s new and started as rogue and then blade dancer and right now 45 lvl at the start of divine era with “find the nomads” main quest active. I have 7 unique and 1 set item on me and 1417 DPS and absolutely destroy anything on sight and there wasn’t any need to craft anything yet.
Crafting is definitely not mandatory.
But i doubt that all of your uniques/set items are very beneficial for your character.
Unless you had tremendous amount of luck and just got uniques that actually benefit your build very much.
Even crafting a good desired base from white, could certainly replace some of your uniques, i am pretty sure of that.
Also the “Basic Attack DPS” is almost worthless currently. That stat has no value for comparisons at all currently.
I don’t know the details of all your builds, you might found some really good items, that didn’t need anything to craft.
But the crafting system in LE can create items from scratch that are usefull for the story content or you can use items that already dropped with good stats and further improve them.
Just because you don’t have to craft, doesn’t make the crafting system useless.
It’s just a difficulty thing of LE.
I don’t know if we might get harder difficulties for story content later down the line.
When it comes to crafting in LE I normally start to craft after getting to monolith. That being said, I will also touch up my gear for certain bosses or zones to make sure I have enough HP or resists (for the fire zone) in the story line to make sure I am not in a spot to get 1 shot. This is more if I get bad RNG with drops which can happen. You can survive pretty much by just eyeballing shops and gambling too. Crafting really shines when you want to progress in arena or monolith quickly. You don’t have to have full out resists for story content but endgame content, monolith/arena gear starts to make more of an impact if you will live or die. I think when it comes to gear drops, crafting and early game experience I think the game is in a good spot where you aren’t really pressured that much to min/max before endgame.
True, you can probably make it through the campaign part just using uniques and sets, but if you really want to refine your build and make it all the way through the lvl 100 content, you pretty much HAVE to craft, there’s no way around it. You’ll get obliterated otherwise. That’s why every single build guide that’s out for this game shows almost exclusively crafted gear, with MAYBE one or two unique/set items that serve the niche for that build. If you want any sort of efficiency, crafting is the way to go.
Even SSF, by the time I’m halfway through the campaign all my gear is crafted to some degree to speed up the process, anything else just makes it feel like I’m not playing optimally, or needlessly slowing myself down, given that it only takes a couple of minutes to craft a half-decent piece of equipment to boost survivability or damage output.
Not saying it’s not possible (definitely is), but it definitely is suboptimal. The itemization in this game is basically built around the crafting.
Yeah you don’t need to crat stuff, you can go with stuff that’s droped or uniques. On the other side with crafted gear at the point you are you are able to have resis maxed, doubble or tripple the dmg a lot of dodge and so on and so forth.
When you are done with the childsplay aka story and move to higher monoliths or arena waves you might change your mind.
