I am new this cycle and a I see when I search it this has been brought up for years, it is disappointing it’s still an issue. It really could be done better. Sometimes my points seem to get unallocated for no reason at all, didn’t even remove anything. I have no idea which skill the points were taken from, it’s just a pain. I thought I had points I didn’t know about and put them into my next skill I knew I wanted only to realize they were taken from something else. It’s just poor design when you have to remove gear to upgrade it and it takes all your points away you were getting from it.
i wish they remove last invested points. but in my experience they remove points in random nodes.
It’s not random, they’ve said before there’s an algorithm behind it.
They don’t want it to be the last invested points because that would let you use gear to get instant respecs, and they don’t want that.
well it’s maybe not random sure. i just couldnt control it. also it doesnt make our gamer life easier. for example on sorc i had unspent point in static orb because im swapping off hands for maps and bosses. and i couldnt use this point for reasons. its just sad.
I dislike when I switch an item with the same amount of +to skills and it removes the points anyways. Not even like remove the item, just switch it.
Yes, those are rather the point of how/why it works like it does.
It does briefly highlight the node the points were removed from in red, but in my experience if you’re not looking at the correct part of the screen then it’s easily missable.
Algorithm seems to be “node closest to center with points that no other node depends on”.
They could record our point allocation path, like build planners do, remove points with gear as they do now and then automatically reapply those points according to saved path when you put item back or change to some other skill point granting item. This should only be done for points from items, not on earning the base 1-20 points.
Nope… Every skill have their own pre-defined list of skill points priority when removing points like that. It’s always the same points getting removed, depending on the skill preset.
The major issue with the current system is that there’s no distinct visual feedback of the removed skill points. You have to look through and remember which ones you had.
People mentioned it has a red outline, I tried, I never saw it. Even if it exists it’s not pronounced enough.
So yes, this mechanic definitely needs some work. The primary function of it is good though, removing points in a manner that you can’t re-spec into something else is the algorithm behind it. Which has a distinct and good purpose for long-term usage.
Yes, which was my suggestion as well, have a ‘skill memory’ in-built to auto re-apply points taken out.
This comes for example helps well with switching out a +1 item to another +1 item without manually needing to re-apply the points. Also it removes the option to change the build entirely since you don’t get free points to allocate in the first place, you always have to manually de-spec.
Having a build that relies on swapping gear for bosses and doing echoes is something the devs don’t want to be incentivized. So while there is some things that can be improved about how point removal is indicated, what you are describing is a point that is actually exactly how it is supposed to work.
This doesn’t work anymore since quite a few patches. (I think somewhere between 0.9.2 and 1.0 it stopped working)
There was one, that stopped working for some reason, I hope they bring it back.
When you opened a skill spec tree the first tiem after poitns have been removed these nodes blinked with a red outline for a few seconds.
I bought LE and started playing in 0.9.2.x and I never saw this, so I’d say your estimate is correct.
I also hope they bring it back. It’s kinda annoying, especially when rolling multiple WW relics, even if after a short time you already memorize them.
Which is still not enough.
This red blinking should stay permanently until points are relocated either in them or somewhere else.
It was wonky before and completely missing now.
IMO, the red blinking (or whichever indicator they choose for this) should be activated anytime a skill point is removed by any means other than manually removing them.
I mean, even (or specially) if you switch a +1 skill equipment for another one without it, the node that got a point removed should be highlighted for people to be aware what they’re missing… Because this can really go unnoticed more often than not.
So much this. Happens each and every time you swap in the next weavers will relic.
That explains it. I thought they’d gone full twitch gamer & have it flash up for a planck second or something.
