I mean, i have feeling something wrong is going in calculations.
I use aura of decay with decrepify node (100% shred effectiveness)
and nodes that give 126% increased ailment frequency.
Also i use ‘arec bones’ unic with 172% increase efficiency.
so each stack of armor shred cuts 372 armor and aura applies 9 stacks per second average.
So it can maintain on mob 35 stacks after 4 second mob is standing in aura of decay area.
its 13000 armor shred,
so my damage must be almost doubled compared to dummy on mobs having average 1000 life.
I even not counting ‘arec bones’ shred chance here.
But actually i see 40-50% increase in damage compared to dummy.
Still don’t want to open it as bug for now.
Maybe someone can correct me.
(It also can be applied to shock)

What physical damage were you doing to take advantage of armour shred?
But yes, there have been numerous posts about the pointlessness/ineffectiveness of penetration/shred:
So… for a few months I have been working on/off on Google spreadsheets and learning a lot of math and coding in spreadsheets. It’s been interesting and I have shared my findings on certain streams, such as on Lonestar McFluffins stream on several occasions.
This week I reworked a lot of the coding, after learning a bit of algebra and I can now use the spreadsheet for so many things. For now it doesn’t include block protection/armour calculations, but it will soon enough.
What I’m getting at is…
Hi guys.
Been playing this game with my son as time permits. We’ve been theorycrafting and testing my son’s mages and things don’t seem to be adding up when it comes to elemental penetration or sources thereof.
For example, shock stacks don’t seem to do anything or very little effect. Scaling out elemental penetration by itself doesn’t seem to be too effective, either.
It feels like you can’t go negative, or going negative has very little effect.
We feel it might just make more sense to sw…
its hard to tell at the moment as we dont have the base stats to show the actual numbers but shred does not feel like its having an impact on higher level monsters.for example:
this Vengeance skill shows i’m getting 100% chance to shred, assuming that its also giving me 100 points of armour shred this this is going to have a greater impact on trash monsters but any higher level monsters with significant protects is going to be largely unaffected.
the investment in 4 points does not s…
As I read and calculated the protection formula in this game, I feel like all shred armor/protection mechanism is too weak now in late game.
Basically health + protection = effective health, therefore damage reduction = health/(health+protection). In late game as I observed, rare and boss monsters have 80% or higher damage reduction, and 10K health. So if I calculate correct, that means these monsters have 40K protection. And then I look at the shred armor/protection numbers: 100 per stack by d…
lets take monolith with mod : monsters have resist equal to 50% their life.
we can assume that average monster life in monolith is 4000.]
So elemental resist is around 2000.
And without shock monster will resist 2000/(2000+4000) = 0.33 => 33% damage will be resisted.
Now my stats that effect shock:
lightning blast
60% shock chance (lightning blast - volatile lightning)
passives
16% (ceraunamancer) 50% shock effect (‘arcane current’ 1 point)
gear
43% shock chance - to…
I know and agree with those posts.
Here i wanted to say that even current mechanics of shred is bugged.
and doesn’t give expected increase in damage.
