That’s kinda missing the point I wanted to make entirely.
So the outcome is ‘We don’t need a gold cost applied to tab-unlocking as it has no function for gameplay’ currently.
Is that your argument then? Because it’s a valid one, I actually wanted to lead it to ‘Which function does it fulfill?’ and hence further towards a fitting gold cost.
I by the way think it fulfills a function to provide limited space to narrow progression so choices have a bit more weight. But if it’s feasable enough to be more functional then limiting? That’s a nice topic related to it.
It’s not. Tabs costing gold does give you a sense of progression. At least for me. It tells me that I’ve gone further in the game and I have better gear stashed. That I have the freedom to create almost any build I want.
And the more tabs I have, the more I feel like that.
Also, it provides a balance between stuff you want to keep and stuff you throw away. I’ve often cleaned my stash throwing away older gear that isn’t as good anymore because the price has increased.
It provides both functions, really.
So the problem here isn’t tabs costing gold. It’s tabs costing gold and MG acquiring gold, and the inequality it causes. Because CoF will always inherently have a greater need for tabs than MG does, but MG is the one that can buy them in bulk.
If MG didn’t use gold as currency, then everything would be fine, in my opinion.
Well, to be entirely fair the majority of people in MG acquire less gold then someone playing CoF. Why? Because overall gold generation in CoF is the same as in MG… but in MG you shift the gold around simply, so few people have more (like me) for the upside of the general access being easier for lower-tier items by far… and extremely harder for top-end items. Unless a messy bug happens like it did this time.
But that MG is based on Gold is hence… once more… a detriment.
Because yes, it’s a distinct inequality happening there which leaks into other mechanics it shouldn’t leak into. Tabs are not supposed to be affected by MG, Lightless Arbor is neither supposed to be. But both are. I’ve stated that so often it gets tiring by now
So I’m with you there, entirely. Also with the functionality explanation.
So the next question is: Is the current gold cost of tabs adequate and hence fitting? Is there a difference needed for this specific mechanic related to CoF and MG? And if so… how to avoid cross-interference?
Always playing CoF. Tab prices was high at start, it was a long time ago. Now they are cheap. Who cares about 500k per tab? You don’t need gold anyway. Lightless arbor stashes total scam garbag in comparasion with another farm mechanics. Sitting on ~20 tabs (coz I am lazy to sort) and 3m gold stacking for idk what. We need some end game gold gamble, stash tabs is ok
Probably an unpolular opinion, but I think stash tabs right now are to inexpensive.
They halved the prices of stash tabs in 1.0.3 and I still believe this was not good.
I am a hoarder myself, but I really like when a game actively forces me to actually think about the loot an what and how much I actually want to keep for a longer period of time.
I agree with OP. I’ve always played CoF, but I’ve certainly felt like it might have been beneficial to start with MG to get the funds to buy a lot of tabs before jumping to CoF. At least the Woven Tree allows you to boost gold farming more now.
Now with ~110 tabs, I finally feel like things are organized and I only need to expand on that occasionally, which allows some gold to accumulate even without the blessings and nodes. My main complaint is that I would have liked to reach this point earlier. I know there was talk of a tab price cap during a recent dev stream, which could help.
That said, I play legacy, and given the current system, I don’t see myself playing seasons if I always have to repeat the tab purchases and organization. Even the talked about tab layout duplicates etc. are likely too much of a headache personally. I like having things organized, but the process of getting there is anything but rewarding. If they also add further gold sinks to compete with stash tabs, it will just make things increasingly frustrating. I wish buying stash tabs once unlocked them for all seasons permanently.
What I would most like to see, is fixing all the bugs related to stash, adding new QoL features like mass moving items between stash/inventory/turtle, lockable items, collapsible stash quick view panels, drag n drop tab management in quick view, etc.
