I just tested this (I had never tried offline before) and it works fine. Are you sure you’re selecting the full offline client as shown in my screenshot above?
i could go in but i cant select my characters…we cant play our online chars offline? we need to make separate ones?
Yeah, you need offline characters. If it’s an offline client and online characters are stored in the server.

Given that the online characters are saved on EHG’s servers (which are currently down), no, you can’t play your online characters offline.

This is what I was kind of confused about as well.
People in chat earlier today were saying when servers go offline, the chars we made in cycle 1 (online) would insta xfer to offline. I knew they would go to eternal but didn’t know during a cycle/season we could make a specific offline char.
They don’t.
They will go to standard once the patch is deployed.
And you can make offline characters at any time you want. That is the whole purpose of the offline client. If your net goes down for a few hours, you can still play. Or if you have spotty net and would rather always play offline.
You can even play a seasonal character offline.

What do you mean? 'Cause I can play true offline mode without any problems.
To all the people who did select Full Offline in Steam and still get the loading error:
This is not the Full Offline mode. You probably started the game via (desktop) shortcut. For some reason that ignores the mode selection in Steam’s LE settings and starts the online mode instead. Either start the game directly from within Steam app or open up LE’s properties in Steam and add the following to the Start Options argument line:
--offline
Then the desktop shortcut should work as intended as well.
Sorry but no, many of us can folow simple instructions, but for some of us the fully offline mode still doesnt work.
It is easy to know if you are in pure offline or the fake offline mode, as in pure offline the menu before character selection only has the play offline buttom, but the fake offline also has the go online buttom on top of the play offline buttom.
I go pure offline from steam pre launch buttom and I can see my 7-8 pure offline chars (Ive played pure offline most of my LE hours), but I cant launch a game with any of them, neither with a new character created yesterday or today.

That would be because the shortcut points to the LE executable directly, bypassing steam entirely.
No, my shortcut is the one created by Steam, from within Steam. I replaced it with a new one, just to be safe.
Well for me it is working aswell. Never played in full offline mode before. Just did what the screenshot was showing and it is working.
