— Boxleitner’s suggestions for Last Epoch - Round 1: —

Thank you for your wonderful action RPG. Here are my thoughts and suggestions: thank you for reading, Mr. Weicker and friends!!

  1. Add an option in settings that creates more ability slots in the Player Interface: Four ability slots is definitely not enough for 12+ skills offered, and creating more slots will allow players a greater variety of choices in combat (Unless you specifically want to limit players to four abilities? I feel that would detract from variety of play and enjoyment).

  2. Please consider including a spell or ability which turns items into 1 gold.

  3. Add the ability to sprint with the shift key. Please allow us to move faster at the cost of either a stamina bar or mana.

  4. Please prevent players from using a Health pot if they are at full health.

  5. Add a large DPS number window to the weapons tooltip box when hovering over the item in order to make comparing item upgrades easier.

  6. I’d like to suggest adding a row of Buff and Debuff icons near or just above the Player interface. These icons should include details when hovered over.

There are currently 5 slots.
5 Active skills is a solid place, it may feel restrictive, but some tough choices are needed.

I believe this is already implemented, at full health you no longer consume potions unless you manually do it. And disabling that would affect builds that use on potion affects and want to consume them at full health

Edit: as a side not i would like to be able to disable them at low life, so i dont consume them in a low life ward build.

There are buff icons right above the ability bar. However not all skills/buff have icons yet
I personally wish they would just make all these items independen and allow the player to resize and move them however we please, i dont like permanent stationary UI’s

Thanks for the reply, Boardman21.

I will go ahead and argue on my own behalf, here:

  1. Limiting the amount of skills to 5 slots is detrimental to play, in my opinion. There are already at least 5 classes, and the only reason to limit skills would usually be for replayability (an incentive to start again), which is already well covered thru those 5 classes and subclasses. With proper mana costs implemented, I believe that players should be given access to most if not all the abilities their character provides. Otherwise, the gaming experience can become frustrating, requiring micromanagment of replacing skills or simply shrugging and avoiding the diversity of a class’s kit altogether.

  2. In regards to the Buff icons: I don’t see or notice any of these. Maybe it’s the class I’m playing? I do understand its Beta; please enlarge or place elsewhere, and include more!!

When i First start playing I fought very hard for a 6th skill slot to be added.
Ive come to realize that (IMO) is more fun to have to think and plan and synergize 5 skills. Not just have any of them at anytime avaliable for use and everyone who is the same mastery is all using and has access to use all the same skills at any moment.

I could see with them being slightly larger, as for adding more yes they add more in every patch.

I believe rogue has the most clarity on its buff, all the other classes have some missing.

I’m really sorry to say that the only one on this list that I can give you any sort of hope on is number 6 because it already exists as Boardman has said.

We want to avoid having too many buffs on this bar and if every single buff appeared there it would get crazy, fast. We are working to add more to them as we go. We like to add buffs that are non-deterministic and/or have gameplay implications like a number of guaranteed crits.

We are also redesigning our action bar and buff/debuff layout a bit. The buffs aren’t getting significantly bigger but they do have a mouse over tooltip that gives more details.

Hi!!

I just wanted to reply: I understand that there will be many, many debuffs and buffs icons when you’re done adding them, AND I want to say that’s okay!!! I believe its more important to inform the players than to worry about it being too much information. Maybe the icons can get smaller as the list grows? Or you can find a proper spot to place them all… but I strongly suggest letting us know what’s going on OVER any concerns about clutter.

Perhaps you can curb the amount of buffs and debuffs in the game by consolidating them? As in merging similar varieties.
