Yeah, I’m not sure if I’d want a unique item to be able to proc/whatever a different class’s skills. That & there’s no implicit/hidden damage modifier on skills that scale with skill level so there’d be no damage difference between a lvl 1 Shield Throw & a lvl 20 Shield Throw if you’re not able to specialise it & take damage nodes (obviously).
Yeah, for a game with defined classes and class skills, it’s probably not a great idea to have cross-class abilities, deludes the class identity quite a bit.
EDIT: Come think of it, there might be potential in “neutral” skills (some inspiration from Hearthstone), very generic usable by any class, but some of its passives vary according to the character using it.
You are right about the dmg modifiers and level differences, i played too much PoE lately that’s why i came up with the idea.
But since LE uses the skill tag system like we have in PoE it can kinda work aswell? Lvl 1 or Lvl 20 Shield Throw doesn’t make sense you are right. But we know that Shield Throw uses ‘‘throwing, Str, Dex, physical’’ tags so we can somehow scale it.
Yeah, but I’d play the “class identity” card, like Fasko.
Fair point!
No, dude. You don’t disagree with me .
@Llama8 tricked me by stating
After that he posted all the other stuff I didn’t read. It’s all his fault!
Don’t let him tear us apart! .
Yep, I did. I think it’s ok. I just don’t like that weird weapon skill combinations that occur with some mechanics. Like the staff wielding spell damage Sentinel that throws shields. It’s nice to play but it looks awkward.
S***, I’ve been rumbled!
The thread was a bit of a stream of consciousness as my view changed.

I’m not sure where I stand on being able to use Shield Throw with a staff. On one hand it looks a bit odd, but on the other, it’s good for there to be an equipment-based two-handed dps option (staff) & a one-handed/defensive option (wand/scepter + shield).
I can’t think of a way to split the two-handed weapon for dps & one-handed + shield for defense if you have damage prefixes on the shield. That said, if they’re prefixes, they would compete with the block chance/effectiveness prefixes, so you’d have to choose between damage prefixes and block prefixes. Would that be bad?
Edit: Maybe they should change Eruption so it’s not a spell, that would reduce the likelyhood that you’d have a Shield Throw build using a staff to buff spell damage

That’s a good point I tried to come up with, too. Theres much “spell damage” synergies so that caster gear is a valid build option for Sentinel. While this offers build diversity it’s a bit counterintuitive.
I am aware that you cannot explain everything with logic. It’s weird to say that a Sentinel should carry a shield to use shield throw, but can use hammer throw with a sword in hand. A mage doesn’t need to wield a cloud to throw Lightnings or push a cart with a barbecue to be able to throw fireballs.
But… it is how it is
A mage doesn’t need to wield a cloud to throw Lightnings or push a cart with a barbecue to be able to throw fireballs.
I want those as MTX. Especially if you could have a crank on the BBQ to fire out the fireballs. Increased casting speed = the crank gets turned faster until you’ve got yourself a pork-powered Vickers.
Should we start a petition?
After you, I’m too lazy.
