Yeah, you’re assuming that those expectations are both reasonable & achievable.
They signed the deal.
Let me ask u this. What makes this game any different from the rest krafton has ruind with thier P2W and predatory microtransaction.
There history doesnt at all support what ur saying here.
They are known for doing this. Pubg tera ect where all ruined with this crap.
So why now why would this game be different based on kraftons reputation.
Theres a reason a huge junk of the community has lost trust in the future of LE
That’s really not their goal. Their goal is to be a goodwill campaign and data collect. They’re nefarious for different reasons. Nobody should trust Tencent if they like living in Western Society. But admittedly, they do like their games to do well. No question about that.
I can tell u have no knowledge of who krafton is as a company. Other wise u wouldnt be saying this
U know krafton has told several game stuidios they would be hands off only to not stick to that.
Judd is even doing the same song and dance the other studios did before him krafton is also doing the exact same thing. Judd As well even stated he likes thier leadership team and believes they have a level head on microtransaction. Judd practically admitted to whats to come in this regard. With out even saying it.
Krafton told several other devs they wouldnt interfere. Pubg tera subnatica 2 ect.
The history of this company doesnt back up what u believe will happen. In fact the opposite
Its no different if a friend of urs is a drug addict lands themselves in jail repeatedly gets out only to turn back to drugs again even tho they are giving u the same song and dance of im done i will remain clean. Would u trust that friends word knowing thier past. Tbh ur probably wouldnt. Should be no different here as well
Hyped for you guys, congratulations on this jackpot! Hope it helps you achieve your dreams and continue to deliver fun new content for this game we love. Already looking forward to the dinosaurs, but cant wait to see more future scope with the new budget. Cheers
You sound like the kind of person so full of themselves that you probably smell your own farts.
so what you’re saying is that regardless of ehg and last epoch reaching the target of the return of investment and the game doing well, making profits etc in the long run, you think that krafton will start making changes and interfere with game design and feature implementation.
is there a reason why they would do this?
Simple answer? “Money”.
Given the track record of Krafton milking the existing playerbase and squeezing them dry for a quick buck, there doesn’t seem to be a reasonable bone in their body that would say “things are slowly trending upward, lets let them cook.” like you’re suggesting.
Again, based on their other acquisitions. Could they do something different here? Absolutely. But I trust pattern recognition over “wouldn’t it be nice if…”'s
A big plus is that seasons will be released every 4 months.
I hope the MTX will be of better quality than what we have now—right now, they’re frankly mediocre
However, I have doubts about the game’s future development—what will happen with monetization?
Krafton is not a charity but a publisher that operates for the benefit (profit) of its shareholders. There are plenty of examples in the gaming or entertainment industry where, after being acquired by a publisher, companies took a turn for the worse: changes in concept (idea, vision, design, core system), declining quality, loss of audience, and if profits don’t satisfy shareholders, resource cuts or even project shutdowns happen.
Incompetence and overreach.
As with their other games.
Tera Online was owned by Krafton, instead of focusing on the game they removed content, invested heavily into MTX and made the devs start a second project while neglecting the first.
PUBG is owned by Krafton, the task of Krafton was initially to provide proper QA, especially in terms of anti-cheat which was a rampant issue in the game - and still is. This QA never happened, stock value fell through the floor and they even caused an active fraud issue… twice.
Subnautica 2, the most likely explanation for the ongoing thing there is that Krafton saw that the 250 mil contract will be fulfilled… went along to fire the lead and make up reaons for it while also changing the roadmap for EA so the goal can’t be reached.
So the reason would rather be: ‘Why wouldn’t they?’
They’re known to do nonsensical stuff anyway.
As of July 2025 Krafton has a market cap of $10.83 Billion USD.
Yeah I don’t think a company worth that much money somehow fumbled it’s way to a net worth of 10 billions. A lot of people like to think they know better than the multi billion dollar company, they don’t. You try and do a bunch of nonsensical, as you’ve put it, stuff and see if you can manage to make money.
I agree that this game will end up in a bad place with egregious monetization schemes etc. but it’s not because of evil bad company, it’s because the game itself will not be able to deliver. If the game is so great and if it was doing well financially there wouldn’t have been a reason to sell out.
I prefer increasing development time. From 4 to 8 months. Greatly increasing the budget is a gamble.
If the game is so great and if it was doing well financially there wouldn’t have been a reason to sell out.
Come on, there are almost one hundred million reasons to do it. Are you blind? I can understand that. But it doesn’t matter. And yes, it is because of “evil bad company”. Or rathter it will be yet.
The problem with that is that it directly decreases their revenue stream. People expect these sorts of games to provide content. It’s a different situation for Grim Dawn because that game was shipped as a single-player experience with co-op, not an online service.
People already complained about EHG’s development pace being ‘glacial.’
I agree with not increasing budget as a form of ‘lifestyle bloat,’ but they likely will have to in order to compete with other games and maintain a reasonable development cycle. It’s always a bit of a balancing act. Ideal scenario is to make enough of a profit to weather bad cycles, but not gouge your player-base, but the ‘indefinite’ growth expectation is always there and most organizations are not satisfied with just maintaining the same profit margin year-over-year.
Ok, lemme rephrase it then:
Doing utterly apalling disgusting and plainly spoken things which should be outright forbidden to do is the issue.
Nobody sane ever would say ‘they couldn’t have risen to 10 billion without doing something specific ‘right’’. In the vast majority of big companies that ‘right’ means exploiting people and the environment. And Krafton is one of those companies.
They tend to come in, look at what’s going on and then focus on throwing the most disgusting and utterly apalling methods of monetization at you.
Loot boxes, gatcha, timed exclusives.
You’re wrong about one thing though… people absolutely know how to do it like a 10 billion company. The difference is that the majority of people have some form of conscience and aren’t utterly disgusting pieces of societal garbage which shouldn’t be allowed to do the things they do.
Which is actively exploiting the psychological weaknesses of the human mind. Not providing a healthy win-win situation… but one where they win as much as possible without a care in the world for how many others lose.
Or would you argue ‘Nestle’ does it ‘right’ and companies should follow in their footsteps? Just to throw that out there… it’s a single example… but by far not the only one, just the most exaggerated example.
Oh, there’s tons of reasons!
It’s just the most benign one.
And the least dumb.
They could’ve simply gone and ‘cashed out’, which is a disgusting reason though as they haven’t earned it yet, their kickstarter promises aren’t even remotely fulfilled yet.
They could’ve actually thought it’s just a great idea opening opportunities! Which would be a really dumb one instead.
But yes, the most likely is still ‘they have financial issues’ as it gives EHG the benefit of the doubt and also checks out with the history of the company as well as the scaling speed versus how many avenues of income they have together with the progression of development and the overall player feedback given.
See, you’re seeing “company has lots of money” and thinking “they must have done things that benefited the consumer”. Which is a wild take in capitalist societies if I’m being honest.
I trust Tencent more than MS, Activision pre MS, EA, Ubisoft, Embracer Group and yes Krafton.
GGG’s struggles are clearly due to POE2’s massive change of scope and Jonathan not really handling any of it well.
Some people seem obsessed with only supporting indie devs. To the point where they say they won’t play LE again. If that makes then happy then have at it. But I play games if they are fun (and not P2W).
So many takes on this announcement that sit in the category ‘How to tell someone you don’t know how videogame development and investment work without telling them you don’t know how videogame development and investment work.’
Krafton thing nowhere near as clear as many here are making out. Check out a recent ‘Deconstructor of Fun’ podcast on the issue.
Good luck EHG.
someone’s been skip, skip, skipping! through the thread again
